The History of Daniel Coy Farms
Daniel Coy was born in 1822 in Oxfordshire, England, as the youngest of three sons to Ezra and Elizabeth (Pitcher) Coy. At the age of ten, Daniel and his family immigrated to the United States in 1832, initially settling in Stark County, near Massillon, Ohio. In 1834, Ezra Coy, purchased Land in Wood County, Lake Township, along with his wife Elizabeth and their three sons—Charles, George, and Daniel—and relocated to what is now Wood County, Ohio in 1835. (Ezra passed away in 1848)
(In 1843, as part of the Federal Indian Removal Policies associated with the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the Wyandot Tribe, who originally inhabited this region, were forced to relocate entirely to Kansas following their compelled signing of a treaty in 1842.)
In 1844, individually and together, George, Charles, and Daniel Coy owned more than 240 acres of what is now known as Lucas County, Oregon Township. Not including their father`s Properties.
In 1849, Daniel Coy wed Anna Maria Rideout in Stark County. She was the sixth of ten children born to Isaac and Hannah (Galpin) Rideout. (The Rideout family immigrated to the United States from Dorsetshire, England, in 1830.) Daniel constructed a cabin and began clearing the land for a farm situated on Pickle Road in Oregon Township, which is now known as Oregon, Ohio. Tragically, he passed away in 1854, during a cholera outbreak in the region. Daniel Coy dedicated himself to caring for those afflicted and assisted in burying the deceased, ultimately succumbing to the illness in July of that year.
They had three children: Perry Coy ( 1850-1935), married Sarah Ann Jackson. Horace Coy (1851- 1940) married Mary H.Whitson. Danny Coy (1854 - 1860) was born after the death of his father. Anna Maria went on to marry thrice and have 5 more children. (Francis Hake, Charles Burt, George Burt, James, and Elizabeth Burt.)
